We, the local church in North
Little Rock, are believers in Christ who receive all those who through the
redemption of Jesus Christ have come to God and welcome you to our meetings.
Moreover, if you do not yet know the preciousness of Christ, we welcome you as
well and would love to introduce Him to you.
In the church in North Little
Rock, all of our activities are for the building up of the Body of Christ.
Because the church is the “pillar and base of the truth” (see footnote 1 below), and
because we grow by “holding to truth in love” (see footnote 2 below), Bible study is a
fundamental aspect of our church life. We encourage Bible study individually, as
well as in small groups and in our larger gatherings. However, our stress in
Bible study is not just on facts in dead letter (see footnote 3 below). Rather we come to
the Bible in the way described by Peter when he spoke of coming to the Lord
Jesus and enjoying Him as nourishment in the word, saying, “if you have
tasted that the Lord is good” (see footnote 4 below).
Why the Designation “Church in North
Little Rock"
The designation “the church in
North Little Rock” is based on the Biblical usage of the word “church”,
referring to the aggregate of all those in a particular locality who through
faith in Jesus Christ have become sons of God possessing the life and nature of
God, united together to express the Body of Christ. Through his study of the
Bible, Watchman Nee, a seeking believer in China, recognized that this was the
standing upon which local churches were established in the New Testament era.
Therefore, following the pure word of the Bible, many churches in China began to
meet on this ground of oneness as early as 1937. Watchman Nee’s co-worker,
Witness Lee, brought this truth to the United States in 1962, and since that
time many across the U.S. and other places have taken this way. Recognizing the
Lord’s desire that His believers express the oneness that they have in
Him (see footnote 5 below), we in North Little Rock have also adopted this standing and
meet simply as the Bible (see footnote 6 below) has described us, as “the church in North
Little Rock”.
In the New Testament, the
local churches met not only in large gatherings, but also frequently from house
to house (see footnote 7 below). Following this pattern, home meetings for enjoying the
riches of Christ through Bible study, singing and praising, and mutual
shepherding and teaching are an integral part of the local church in North
Little Rock’s “church life”.
On the other hand, our local church is not an
entity unto itself but a part of the larger Body of Christ. Consequently we
frequently seek opportunities for blending with nearby local churches, such as
the churches in Fayetteville, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Shreveport,
Nashville, Irving and a number of churches in Texas. Furthermore, we have been blessed
immensely by participating in international conferences sponsored by the Living
Stream Ministry.
